Severe anxiety among those who try to avoid the dentist’s office is a reality that countless oral healthcare professionals work to combat every day. Unfortunately, past trauma, physical ailments, and even sensitive gag reflexes can cause many individuals to avoid necessary dental care. At Commencement Bay Dentistry, Dr. Miller wants to change the way patients feel about the dentist’s office by offering sedation dentistry. If you or your child is nervous about an upcoming visit, call or text us to find out how we can help.

Why Choose Commencement Bay Dentistry for Sedation Dentistry?

  • Two Methods of Dental Sedation Available
  • We Welcome Dental Insurance & Partner with CareCredit
  • Nitrous Oxide Can Be Used on Children & Adults

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide is a mixture of pure oxygen and nitrous oxide that comes together to create a calming effect on the person receiving it. Administered through a nasal mask that is worn throughout the appointment, a child or adult can expect to become more relaxed and at ease, allowing for greater efficiency on behalf of the dentist and dental team. The gas is considered to be a mild solution that poses no poor side effects; in fact, many patients can resume normal activity after their appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is slightly stronger than nitrous oxide and comes in the form of a prescribed pill that is to be taken at a designated time before one’s appointment. It’s recommended for those who have moderate dental anxiety or require multiple treatments to be performed in a single visit. Its effects leave patients comfortable and even sleepy with many dozing off while in the dentist’s chair. You will need a responsible driver to escort you to and from your dental appointments when oral conscious sedation is utilized.
