Achieving Superior Results with State-of-the-Art Technology

Dentists throughout the United States invest in their practices and patients in different ways. While some focus more on the aesthetics of their office, others prefer to offer high-end amenities. At Commencement Bay Dentistry, Dr. Miller believes in providing state-of-the-art dental technology that not only produces more accurate results but also allows for a more comfortable patient experience and reduced recovery times. Review the following devices and call us if you have any questions.

Intraoral Camera

Being able to see more clearly inside a patient’s mouth is essential when it comes to detecting cavities and gum disease in their earliest stages. With the help of our intraoral camera, we can pinpoint affected areas while also showing and explaining to patients what kinds of treatment are required to achieve healthier teeth and gums.

Air Abrasion

Air abrasion is a decay removal and tooth preparation tool that we often use in place of the traditional dental drill. This innovative system allows us to conserve more of the patient's natural tooth structure. Because the equipment does not produce vibration or heat, patients require little or no anesthesia.

So how does it work? Air abrasion applies the principle of kinetic energy to bombard the tooth area with a high-pressure stream of tiny aluminum oxide particles. As the particles bounce off the tooth's surface, they blast away decayed tissue and prepare the tooth for a filling. Air abrasion is a popular choice for small restorations or chips and repairs.

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays are known for their high-resolution imaging, fast production, and safety. Emitting far less radiation than traditional radiographs, the scans take only seconds to capture and deliver a high-resolution image that can be easily viewed by the patient as well as our team. These updated radiographs provide a clearer visual of one’s oral anatomy above and below the gumline.

Electric Handpieces

Electric handpieces are the latest technological advancement, replacing the age-old, belt-driven handpieces of the past. With the use of air to propel the engine of the handpiece, you will experience less of the high-pitched siren noise most patients have come to dislike while being treated in the dental office. Electric handpieces reduce acoustic and physical vibrations in the mouth during dental procedures.

Dental Loupes

Dental loupes, also called magnification glasses, increase visibility, allowing us to accurately diagnose and treat small problems before they get big. Wearing a pair of dental loupes, our doctor can easily detect small areas of decay and hairline fractures not visible to the naked eye. Early detection and treatment will prevent you from needing extensive reconstructive work in the future.

Dental loupes are especially useful while performing comprehensive exams, oral surgeries, and restorative work. A small light is often attached to the frame of the loupes, providing a continual light source for the area being examined. The light allows our doctor to perform dental procedures comfortably without constantly hunching over and maneuvering the overhead lamp. Magnification ranges from 2X to 5X, so we can choose the right pair of loupes for the job.
